Historical Information
One of the Three suggested possible Mountains where the transfiguration took place
- Mount Tabor. This is a traditional location, but is not as high as Mount Hermon. The Church of the Transfiguration is located atop Mount Tabor. The earliest identification of the Mount of Transfiguration as Tabor is by Origen in the 3rd century. It is also mentioned by St. Cyril of Jerusalem and St. Jerome in the 4th century. It is later mentioned in the 5th century Transitus Beatae Mariae Virginis. [1]
Suggested Gospel Reflections:
Why were the Apostles became afraid after hearing the voice that said " This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him."? (Mt. 17:5 NAB)
Why were they able to conquer their fear when Jesus touched them and said " Rise, and do not be afraid."? (Mt: 17:7 NAB)
